verb ahl-mohr-SAHR Rare

Origin: From Vulgar Latin admordium (a small bite), from Latin mordere (to bite).

Usage Note

Almorzar is a stem-changing verb (o→ue): almuerzo, almuerzas, almuerza…. In Spain it typically means a mid-morning snack or light second breakfast, while in most of Latin America it means the main midday meal (lunch). For Spaniards, the main midday meal is usually comer (la comida) rather than almorzar.
