Usage Note

Metal is masculine and refers to both the material category and individual metals (el hierro es un metal). In music, los metales (the metals / brass section) refers to brass instruments. The adjective is metálicosonido metálico (metallic sound). Note that heavy metal is borrowed directly into Spanish as a genre name, often shortened to metal.
