Usage Note

Menos is the comparative of poco and the opposite of más. It functions as adverb, adjective, and pronoun: habla menos (speak less), menos tiempo (less time), el que menos sabe (the one who knows least). The idiomatic a menos que (unless) introduces subjunctive clauses. Por lo menos and al menos both mean 'at least'.
