meditar

to meditate

verb meh-dee-TAHR Rare

Origin: From Latin meditari, 'to reflect, practise'.

Also means

to ponder

Usage Note

Meditar covers both spiritual meditation (meditar cada mañana — to meditate each morning) and intellectual deliberation (meditó la respuesta — he thought carefully about his answer). It is a regular -ar verb with no stem changes. When the sense is 'to think over', it competes with reflexionar and cavilar, the latter implying prolonged or anxious rumination.

Examples

"Necesito meditar antes de decidir."

Natural Translation

I need to meditate before deciding.
