Usage Note

Mecánicamente describes action performed without conscious thought or in a machine-like, repetitive way. Like most Spanish adverbs ending in -mente, it is formed from the feminine adjective mecánica plus -mente. When two or more such adverbs appear in a list, Spanish style drops -mente from all but the last: automática y mecánicamente. The word can also describe something done from a purely mechanical or technical standpoint.
