Origin: From French marron ('chestnut').

Usage Note

Marrón is the standard word for brown in Spain, but in much of Latin America café or pardo is preferred for the colour. In Spain, marrón also has a colloquial slang sense: un marrón = a mess, a hassle, or an unpleasant situation ('me han metido en un marrón' = 'they've got me into a mess'). The plural is marrones.
