Marginación denotes the process or state of being pushed to the social margins — exclusion from mainstream economic, political, or cultural life. It is an abstract noun formed from marginar (to marginalise). The related adjective marginado/a functions as both adjective and noun ('a marginalised person'), and zona de marginación is a standard phrase in social-policy reports throughout Latin America.
