lucir

to shine

verb loo-SEER Less Common

Also means

to show off

Usage Note

Lucir has a first-person singular irregularity: yo luzco (not luzo). Used reflexively, lucirse means 'to show off' or sarcastically 'to make a fool of oneself' (¡Vaya, te luciste!). In clothing contexts it means 'to wear' or 'to look good in' (luce muy bien ese vestido).

Examples

"Las estrellas lucen más en el campo."

Natural Translation

The stars shine more brightly in the countryside.
