Luchador derives from luchar ('to fight, to struggle') and covers both a literal combatant or wrestler and a figurative 'fighter' for a cause. The feminine form is luchadora. In Mexican culture a luchador specifically refers to a wrestler in the lucha libre tradition, often masked. The figurative sense — es una luchadora nata ('she is a born fighter') — is very common in everyday speech.
