Usage Note
Loro is the common word for a parrot throughout the Spanish-speaking world, though papagayo is also used, especially in literary or poetic contexts. Colloquially loro means a chatterbox: hablar como un loro ('to talk like a parrot', i.e. non-stop). In Spain, loro is also very informal slang for a portable radio or cassette player (now dated).
