listo

ready

adjective LEES-toh Rare

Also means

clever; smart

Usage Note

Listo with ser means 'clever' (es muy listo, 'he's very smart'), while with estar it means 'ready' (¿estás listo?, 'are you ready?'). This ser/estar split is a classic learner trap. The feminine form is lista, and listo can also be used as an exclamation meaning 'done!' or 'sorted!' in informal speech across Spain and Latin America.

Examples

"Todo está listo para la fiesta."

Natural Translation

Everything is ready for the party.
