Usage Note

Lamentablemente is a sentence adverb expressing regret, always placed at the start of or within a clause. Like all -mente adverbs, when used in a series, only the final one takes the suffix. It is formal; in spoken Spanish, desgraciadamente or the phrase por desgracia are equally common alternatives.
