Usage Note

Insuficiente is also used as a noun in Spanish grading: a suspenso (fail) mark is sometimes labelled insuficiente on school report cards, below suficiente (barely passing). As an adjective it is invariable for gender. The noun form is insuficiencia, common in medical language (insuficiencia cardíaca = cardiac insufficiency / heart failure).
