Usage Note
Instruir is a -uir verb with an irregular present tense: a y is inserted before endings beginning with a vowel (instruyo, instruyes...). It is more formal than enseñar and often implies systematic or official instruction. In legal Spanish, instruir un caso means to conduct the preliminary investigation of a case.
