Usage Note

Inesperado is built from the prefix in- (not) + esperado (expected, from esperar). It follows standard gender/number agreement: visita inesperada, resultados inesperados. The adverb inesperadamente means 'unexpectedly'. A close synonym is imprevisto, though inesperado stresses that nobody was waiting for it.
