Usage Note

Incierto covers two senses: something unknown or doubtful (el futuro es incierto — the future is uncertain), and something that is not true (un rumor incierto — an unfounded rumour). The noun form is la incertidumbre (uncertainty). Note that incertidumbre is the standard noun; inciertitud is not used in standard Spanish.
