Usage Note
Imputación is a formal legal term for a formal accusation or charge laid against someone, often before a formal indictment — imputación de cargos. In Spain, imputado (now officially replaced by investigado following a 2015 reform) was the person under investigation; the term imputación is still used in legal writing even though investigado replaced the noun imputado in official usage.
Examples
"La imputación fue retirada por falta de pruebas."
Natural Translation
The charge was dropped for lack of evidence.
