Usage Note
Hermanita is the affectionate diminutive of hermana, formed with -ita. In Latin America it is also used as a warm form of address to a close female friend who is not a biological sister. The masculine equivalent is hermanito. The diminutive carries no derogatory connotation; it signals affection or endearment.
