Halagüeño describes an outlook or situation that looks favourable and gives grounds for optimism; a near-synonym is prometedor. The diaeresis on the ü is essential: without it gü before e would be silent, changing the sound entirely. The feminine form is halagüeña, and it often appears in the phrase no es halagüeño ('it does not look promising').
