Hacendado denotes the owner of a hacienda — a large estate or plantation, particularly in Latin America. Historically it referred to the wealthy landowning class that wielded great social and political power in colonial and post-colonial society. The feminine form hacendada is fully established. In some countries estanciero is the regional equivalent.
