gratis
free of charge
adverb GRAH-tees Rare
Origin: From Latin gratis, ablative plural of gratia (favor, grace).
Usage Note
Gratis is invariable — it never changes form regardless of what it modifies. In an adverbial sense it is interchangeable with gratuitamente, though gratis is far more common in everyday speech. Do not confuse with libre (free as in freedom, not price).
