Usage Note

Galleta covers both the sweet cookie (North American usage) and the savoury biscuit (British usage) — context disambiguates. In Spain it also serves as informal slang for a slap on the face (te voy a dar una galleta). The phrase estar hecho una galleta (to be worn out) is also used colloquially. Do not confuse with pastel (cake) or bizcocho (sponge cake).
