Fundamentar means to provide a solid foundation or rationale for something, used in academic, legal, and journalistic writing (fundamentar una teoría, fundamentar una sentencia). It is more formal than basar ('to base'). The reflexive fundamentarse en means 'to be based on' or 'to rest on.'
