Usage Note

Formado is the past participle of formar used as an adjective. Estar formado por means 'to be made up of' (el comité está formado por diez miembros, the committee is made up of ten members), a pattern that is extremely common in formal and journalistic Spanish. As a standalone adjective it can also mean 'well-trained' (un profesional bien formado).
