firmemente

firmly

adverb feer-meh-MEN-teh Rare

Also means

steadfastly

Usage Note

Firmemente is formed from firme (firm, steady) + -mente. Because firme ends in -e and carries no written accent, firmemente likewise requires none. It describes both physical steadiness (sostenido firmemente — held firmly) and resolute conviction (creer firmemente — to believe steadfastly). Distinguish it from sólidamente (solidly) and decididamente (decisively), which carry different shades of firmness.

Examples

"Se negó firmemente a ceder ante la presión."

Natural Translation

He firmly refused to yield to the pressure.
