Usage Note

Firme is invariable for gender (el suelo firme, la decisión firme) and pluralises to firmes. It can describe physical solidity (terreno firme, 'firm ground') or resolve (mantenerse firme, 'to stand firm'). In a military context, ¡firmes! is the command equivalent to 'attention!'.
