Usage Note
Finalizar is more formal than terminar or acabar and is common in official, journalistic, and academic registers (la reunión finalizó a las seis). It is often used intransitively ('to end') or transitively (finalizar un proyecto). The noun finalización and adjective final share the root. Avoid mixing it with finiquitar ('to settle/close out' a contract or debt).
