familiarizar

to familiarise

verb fah-mee-lyah-ree-SAHR Rare

Usage Note

Familiarizar is most often used reflexively as familiarizarse con — 'to familiarise oneself with' a topic, system, or place. The non-reflexive form can mean to make someone else familiar with something. It belongs to the -izar verb class and follows regular -ar patterns except for the spelling change -z-> -c- before e in forms like familiaricé. A common learner error is to omit con after the reflexive.

Examples

"Debes familiarizarte con el programa."
