Extendido is the past participle of extender used adjectivally, meaning spread out or widely distributed. Una práctica muy extendida ('a very widespread practice') is a typical construction. It also describes something physically spread out or unfolded: un mapa extendido sobre la mesa ('a map spread out on the table'). Distinguish from extenso ('extensive, lengthy'), which describes size or duration.
