Usage Note
Explayar is almost always used reflexively: explayarse means to go into great detail or to speak at length on a topic — se explayó en los detalles (she elaborated on the details). The non-reflexive explayar (to spread out) is rare. It carries no negative connotation; contrast divagar (to ramble, which implies losing the thread).
