evadir

to evade

verb eh-bah-DEER Rare

Also means

to escape

Usage Note

Evadir often pairs with tax or legal contexts — evadir impuestos ('to evade taxes') is the standard phrase. The reflexive evadirse means to escape from a place or from reality (e.g. a prisoner escaping or someone mentally switching off). Do not confuse with eludir, which stresses sidestepping rather than outright evasion.

Examples

"Intentó evadir los impuestos durante años."

Natural Translation
