estable

stable

adjective es-TAH-bleh Less Common

Also means

steady

Usage Note

Estable is invariable for gender (un gobierno estable, una relación estable) and contrasts with inestable (unstable). In medicine, el paciente está estable is the standard phrase used after surgery or in an emergency. Note that estable as an adjective is not the same word as el establo (a stable for horses), which has a different ending and meaning.

Examples

"El puente fue declarado seguro y estable."

Natural Translation

The bridge was declared safe and stable.
