Usage Note

Escribir is irregular only in its past participle: escrito (not escribido). This makes it an essential irregular participle to memorise. The compound verb describir follows the same pattern: descrito. Escribir a mano means 'to write by hand'; escribir a máquina/ordenador means 'to type'.

She writes a letter to her grandparents every week.
