Enfermera is the feminine form; the masculine is enfermero. Both are used equally in modern Spanish. The broader term personal de enfermería covers nursing staff. Do not confuse with enferma (a sick woman) — the shared root is enfermo/enferma (sick), but enfermera is a professional title.
