Also means
nevertheless
Usage Note
Empero is a literary and archaic adversative conjunction-adverb meaning 'however' or 'yet'; it appears in classical texts and formal writing but sounds highly stilted in modern speech. A learner will encounter it reading Golden Age literature; in everyday usage sin embargo, no obstante, or pero are the natural replacements. Its register is closer to English 'howbeit' than to 'but'.
Examples
"La batalla fue sangrienta; empero, sobrevivieron muchos."
Natural Translation
The battle was bloody; however, many survived.
