electrón

electron

noun eh-lek-TROHN Less Common

Usage Note

Electrón is the Spanish term for the subatomic particle. Like most scientific terms ending in -ón, it is masculine (el electrón) and its plural follows the accent-dropping pattern: electrones (the accent disappears because the stress now falls naturally on the penultimate syllable). The field of study is electrónica ('electronics').

Examples

"El electrón tiene carga negativa."
