Usage Note

Durar is used for the duration of events, objects, or states: la película dura dos horas ('the film lasts two hours'). Its adjective cognate duro means 'hard' or 'tough', which can cause confusion. The phrase ¿cuánto dura? ('how long does it last?') is extremely common in everyday conversation.
