Usage Note
Dio is the preterite third-person singular of dar (to give): él/ella dio. Uniquely, dar takes -er/-ir preterite endings despite being an -ar verb, and neither di nor dio carries a written accent because both are monosyllabic. Do not confuse with Italian dio (god).
