to differ
verb dee-feh-REER Rare
Origin: From Latin differre.
Also means
to defer
Usage Note
Diferir is a stem-changing verb (e → ie in stressed syllables, e → i in certain conjugated forms — like sentir): difiere, difieran. It has two meanings that English also splits: to be different from something (diferir en opinión — to differ in opinion) and to postpone (diferir una decisión — to defer a decision). The more common word for 'to differ' in everyday speech is diferenciarse.
