Also means
disgrace
Usage Note
Desgracia means bad luck or misfortune in general (por desgracia = unfortunately) and can also mean a specific unfortunate event or disgrace. Por desgracia is a very common adverbial phrase. Do not confuse it with vergüenza (shame/embarrassment) — desgracia emphasises bad luck or a pitiful situation rather than moral failing or embarrassment.
Examples
"Por desgracia, llegamos tarde al tren."
Natural Translation
Unfortunately, we arrived late for the train.
