Usage Note
Desestimar is primarily a legal and administrative term: a court or authority desestima a petition, appeal, or claim when it rejects it on formal or substantive grounds. It is stronger and more final than rechazar in formal contexts. Outside law it can mean 'to disregard' or 'to undervalue'.
