Usage Note
Desembocar literally means for a river to empty into a larger body of water (el río desemboca en el mar = the river flows into the sea). Figuratively it means for a situation or process to result in something (la crisis desembocó en una huelga). It is a spelling-change verb: c → qu before e (desemboque).
