Usage Note

Decantar has two main uses: the literal one (to decant wine or a liquid) and the figurative reflexive decantarse por ('to come down on the side of, to opt for'): me decanto por la segunda opción ('I lean towards the second option'). The reflexive figurative use is extremely common in journalism and formal speech. In the literal sense it is a regular -ar verb with no spelling changes.
