Cursilería derives from cursi, a distinctly Spanish concept meaning pretentiously genteel, tacky, or embarrassingly sentimental — a person or thing that tries too hard to appear refined. The adjective cursi is invariable in gender (un detalle cursi / una canción cursi). The concept lacks a precise English equivalent; 'kitsch' or 'cheesy' are the closest approximations.
