cursar

to study

verb koor-SAHR Less Common

Also means

to send (official document)

Usage Note

Cursar has two distinct registers. In an educational context it means 'to study' or 'to be enrolled in' a course: cursa segundo de bachillerato ('he is in the second year of sixth form'). In bureaucratic and legal contexts it means 'to send' or 'to process' an official document or request: cursar una solicitud ('to submit/process a request'). Learners familiar only with the school meaning can be confused by the administrative sense.

Examples
