Cultivar is used literally for farming (to grow crops) and figuratively for nurturing relationships, skills, or virtues: cultivar la amistad ('to cultivate friendship'). The related noun cultivo means a crop or cultivation. In botany, the English loanword cultivar (a cultivated variety) is used in the same form in Spanish scientific texts.
