Cualificación refers to a professional or academic qualification or credential: cualificación profesional. It is distinct from calificación (a grade or rating), though both share the same root. In Spain, the Sistema Nacional de Cualificaciones is the national qualifications framework. Learners often confuse the two; a teacher gives a calificación (grade), while a worker has a cualificación (qualification).
