Usage Note

Cual (no accent) is the relative pronoun used after a preposition or article: el motivo por el cual ('the reason for which'), lo cual ('which', referring to a whole clause). With a written accent, cuál becomes the interrogative 'which one?' (see id 8641). The plural is cuales; an accent-bearing plural cuáles is the interrogative plural.
