Usage Note

Crudo as an adjective means raw or uncooked (carne cruda) or, figuratively, harsh or bleak (una realidad cruda). As a masculine noun, el crudo is the industry term for crude oil, dominant in business and news contexts. The adjective also describes something unrefined or graphic in a non-literal sense: imágenes crudas means 'raw, graphic images'. Do not confuse crudo with duro ('hard'); crudo emphasises being unprocessed or uncooked.
