conversación
conversation
noun kohn-behr-sah-SYOHN Less Common
Origin: From Latin conversatio (act of living with), from conversari (to keep company with).
Usage Note
Conversación ends in -ción, so its plural is conversaciones with a stress shift (the accent mark drops because stress then falls naturally on the penultimate syllable). Mantener una conversación (to hold a conversation) and entablar conversación (to strike up a conversation) are common collocations. The informal charla (chat) is preferred in casual registers.
Examples
"Tuvimos una conversación muy interesante."
Natural Translation
We had a very interesting conversation.
